Descripción

This simple texture-swap mod replaces default Bus livery with a more realistic lore-friendly one based on MTA buses in New York City. Every fan of GTA IV's NYC-theme has already changed the default colors of the bus to White and Blue, and this mod is also meant to be used with those colors.

The livery is designed to fit GTA IV's 2008 setting. The design and time period of the livery has been established by researching various online websites that include photos (along with the dates they were taken on) of NYC's MTA buses.

Since most buses in GTA IV are stationary, also the game lacks any planned bus routes, and the rear destination display is texture unmapped, I've decided to permanently turn off the front destination display as well.

The Bus model depicted in my photos features rear license plate, because it was bettered by Thundersmacker - the absolute legend. Go check out his flawless mods!

Install:

0. Backup your original files, I recommend to copy your entire vanilla "vehicles.img" if you're a frequent vehicle modder!

1. Using OpenIV or SparkIV, open the GTA IV > pc > models > cdimages > vehicles.img

2. Find file "bus.wtd" and replace the "bus_livery" using a file provided.

3. In your system's files explorer, navigate to GTA IV > common > data > carcols.dat. Open this file using any text editor, such as Notepad.

4. Find the line starting with "bus" and replace the values "53,8,53" with "133,74,0"

===Technical Info===

Only the bus_livery texture has been modified, nothing else. The "Liberty City Bus" writing has been utilized from the the vanilla texture - in the final game it goes unused for unknown reason.

I've positioned the textures as big as possible to not go out of the mapped location on the 3D model. Since almost all of those images are rectangle-shaped, I've intentionally left a black corner markings for each image, just enough for them to not be visible on the model.

GIMP has been used to edit the textures. I am providing two graphic files:

  • .dds file, which is a default OpenIV format, the texture file has simply been overwritten using default GIMP's settings, hence the texture file size and lack of mipmaps. I highly suggest using OpenIV's function to generate mipmaps and change pixel format.
  • .png file, which was exported using GIMP with its default settings, with every box unchecked except "Save background color" and "Save resolution".

I'm not a professional nor experienced modder; however I am open to any advice and constructive criticism!
